Microsoft Photo Info V1.0

A very simple free plugin that every photographer would want is this program called Microsoft Photo Info. Officially release end of January 2007. It is useful and a must download. (Available for download without validation from Microsoft.)

Microsoft Photo Info allows photographers to add, change and delete common “metadata” properties for digital photographs from inside Windows Explorer. When installed, a new “Photo Info” item appears on the context menu for files selected in Windows Explorer. To use, simply select one or more image fiiles, right-click and choose “Photo Info” to open the Photo Info properties editor. You can edit metadata for files individually, or all together as a batch. Photo Info reads and writes metadata in IPTC and XMP formats (depending on file type). It also provides enhanced “hover tips” and additional sort properties for digital photographs in Windows Explorer.

See the date and time the shot was taken, plus the camera and settings used. Enter a title, keywords, description, URL and copyright information that Photo Info can save into the image file’s metadata. Once you’ve installed the add-in, hit the new “Photo Info” item from the context menu to try it out. (The menu item showed up for me fine in XP, but I couldn’t coax it to show itself in Vista.) Microsoft Photo Info is a free download that requires the dreaded “Windows Validation” dance with the devil. The add-in is for Windows XP and (allegedly) Vista with the .NET framework 2.0 only
